Confidence is the best label a woman can buy - Milli Gould: A celebration of style
On October 13th, the Canadian Fashion community mourned the loss of a true fashion and business powerhouse, Milli Gould. Milli is best remembered as a fashion designer, businesswoman, and philanthropist. The store which bears her name has been active in Hamilton since 1964, and, less than a decade after bringing European styles to Canada, Milli began to design and manufacture her own clothing line. Her brand and style continued to garner well-deserved attention throughout the 70s and in the early 1980s, Milli’s brand received international recognition after being worn by Hollywood elite such as Joan Collins and Linda Evans. Milli’s brand continued to flourish throughout the 80s, 90s, and 2000s and her clothing line has asserted itself comfortably as a legacy in Canadian Fashion.
A few months back, I had the pleasure of attending the Grand Opening of Milli: A Celebration of Style; an exhibit at the Art Gallery of Hamilton, showcasing Milli Gould’s life’s work. The exhibit features nearly 50 ensembles of couture and ready to wear fashion from the wardrobes of Milli’s devoted clients. It is so wonderful that the Art Gallery of Hamilton was able to honour Milli and express to her, in person, how important she has been to the Hamilton community. This incredible exhibition will be hosted at the Art Gallery of Hamilton until February 2020, for more information on the exhibition, head to the AGH website here.
